The
Amputee's Resource Page
Hello visitor.
I assume you have found your way to this page because you
have a disability, most likely an amputation. I am a motorcyclist
(25 years summer '07) first, an amputee second. After the
discovery of a tumour in my left ankle, late 2006, I underwent
the removal of said tumour via BK amputation, which took place
January 26, 2007. That was the beginning of a tremendous upheaval
in my life. Together with chemotherapy, it has proven to be
the toughest job I have ever had to work at in my life: learning
how to "live" all over again. If there was anything
positive to be gained from this experience at all, I would
have to say that it has been the meeting, rather the "connecting"
with others who have experienced the same experiences, felt
the same feelings, and have learned to cope and carry on.
In order for my own healing to continue, both physically and
mentally, I felt the need to feel productive and contributing.
Having said that, I present you with The
Amputee's Resource Page. Here you will find useful
links, photos and inspiring letters and stories, all in an
effort to make YOU,
The Amputee, feel hopeful and
positive once again. Just scroll down and stop wherever you
wish.
Together, we
will support one another. If you would like to contribute

Abandoned by
her owners after hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana, Molly had
wandered injured and alone for weeks before being rescued
and taken to a shelter that housed other abandoned animals.
Once there, she had the misfortune of being attacked by a
pit bull terrier, nearly losing her life afterwards. Infection
had set in to her right front leg. After taking her to LSU,
the surgeon treating her took notice of Molly's intelligence;
her ability to alternate sides to avoid geting sores, her
resisitance to succumb to her fate and surgeon Rustin Moore
decided to amputate her leg, rather than destroy the animal.
While continuing to protect her injured leg, Molly still allowed
her herself to be handled. An artificial limb was made for
her, and Molly walked out of the clinic.
"This was
the right horse and the right owner," Moore insists.
"Molly happened to be a one-in-a-million patient. She's
tough as nails, but sweet, and she was willing to cope with
pain. She made it obvious she understood (that) she was in
trouble."
"The prosthetic
has given Molly a whole new life," Allison Barca DVM,
Molly's regular vet, reports. "And she asks for it! She
will put her little limb out, and come to you and let you
know that she wants you to put it on. Sometimes she wants
you to take it off too." And sometimes, Molly gets away
from Barca. "It can be pretty bad when you can't catch
a three-legged horse," she laughs.
Molly now visits
rehabilitation centres, hospitals and shelters, offering hope
to those in need.
